Trescrows,

I think you are correct - they will ditch the "Scotts" brand tractors. Based on the interest shown where you were - they should see a volume increase vs. the Scotts line. It will be interesting to watch how this progresses. I think it is probably hoped the L line will expand JD sales - and will serve as "chum" to get folks into the real JD dealers. It probably won't affect JD Dealer volume much, will increase their service business and may affect the "mix" of product at the Dealers low end - but I'm sure the JD folks have thought that through.

Don't forget going to Deere dealer to get parts, they have
to walk by the showroom full of new stuff.
I'm sure Deere sees $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Rationalizer,
I personally did not do a side by side comparasion between the L and the LT.
My understanding from my brief conversation with the JD dealer on this subject, is that if you were to compare component to component of the L and the LT series, the LT series are "supposed" to be of a higher quality therefore thier lifespan should be longer where as the L series have a "limited" lifespan or as some would call that a light tractor or disposable tractor as with the Craftsman class of tractor. IMHO I think if it was used only as a lawn mower, and taken care of, as with everything else, they should last a long time.
Other than that I think pound for pound you get a lot for your $$$ with the L series, the biggest tractor in that series for around $2500, but... as my dealer pointed out, if you looked at the rear end of that tractor you will see it is not of the same construction as the rest of the JD tractors. I think JD will treat all thier customers the same, the L sereis may be targeting a different group of customer? and I think I have to agree with you....that JD appears to have a lot of overlap in thier tractor line. even with there "sub compact" compact tractor line. Look at the price differences in thier X500 series, vs 2210 vs 4010.

Subvet,

No surprises there. If they can sell the tractors side by side more power to them. I think it is good for "we the consumers" as we have more choices.

Does anyone know where the L's are made?

I came across this Link today about John Deere

Garden Web

Also I got a Home Depot flyer today in my mail showing 4 JD lawn Tractors models:

17 hp - L100- $1499
20 hp - L120- $2199
23 hp - L130- $2499
25 hp - G100- $4299 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

In order to eliminate some of the overlap the smaller LT models were (133) and will (150) be eliminated. I was in search for a mower and quite frankly was looking to buy just about anything. My JD dealer had 3 - 150's left, gave me a great deal and I got an additional $250 bucks off on top of that compliments of JD! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like a deal! It stands to reason that they need to "rationalize" their product line. Just wish I had been able to wait. I wonder what their actual volume is for each model? Of course - unlike the auto industry they only have one color to worry about! Henry Ford would be jealous!

Yeah, but Ford's black paint was inexpensive. You sure pay a lot for that John Deere Green paint job.

I was talking to my JD Dealer last fall. He was telling about the new JD lineup going in at HD. He said it probably won't hurt their business much, but HD won't sell parts or service. That leaves the service up to the dealer. And, during the busy part of the season, he is going to service his customers, first. Which, I can't blame him for that. That makes very good business sense. Yall agree?
