Home Depot JD

According to the Deere website, the new 100 series is available at Home Depot and your local Deere Dealer. Why anyone wouldn't buy it from the dealer (assuming similar price) is beyond me.

Nice looking unit for the money. A couple guys at work are itching to buy.

Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

Deere will reach (or continue to reach since they made the Scotts mowers previously) a much broader market at Home Depot in comparison to their dealer network. The reason is the dealers themselves - some of them stink. If you are budget conscious and want a simple riding mower, you will feel like a second-class citizen in a deere dealership. They certainly know what they are talking about, and have the service department, but they will be talking to you about a $3500 LX in no time. Contrast Home Depot, where you can happily plunk down $2 grand and load up your little baby deere with the help of a clueless teenager. I have an LT, and if I were buying today, I would get the L series. More features, great prices, and adequate build quality for suburban mowing etc. I often wonder if the dealer network will shift away from lawn and garden completely, focusing on series grounds care equipment, up through the Ag line. Makes more sense to me.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

Hi Steve,

There are bad dealers in all tractor brands. I don't think JD is any different. What you should get from a dealer though is knowledge of what works best for you. If you know exactly what you want and how much you want to spend on it, then the big box store might not be a bad choice. For many of us though, that have relied on the wisdom of good dealers, having a teenager who doesn't know anything assist you just won't cut it. Really depends on your needs.

Re: Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

Home Depot, Menards, Fleet Farm can always low the prices. But my experience is not good with really any of them. They are all great until something doesn't work. How many times have you taken something back to them and then they say, well I am sorry but that is just out of warranty?? I hear it a lot. You buy from one employee and a month later that employee is no longer there. The personal relationship is not there. How many of you have taken your tractor back just out of warranty and you hear your dealer say, gee that shouldn't have happen, we will cover it for you? I just have a real hard time buying from the big discount stores on major purchases.

Just my opinion

Re: Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

I know where you are coming from....I just hate dealing with the salesman routine.I pretty much feel educated enough to go by one off of the floor without a salesmans spin. It is like buying a Lawn mower from K-mart versus going to a tractor dealership and buying, they can answer a lot of questions and help you more at the dealer.

Re: Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

you should never have a problem taking something back at a depot....i cant say anything for the other guys but depot takes back anything....even years later. just ask for store credit and youve got it...worse case ask to see the MOD. you will win just be nice and they will make you happy everytime!

Re: Why someone wouldnt buy from a dealer

koko,

You may be right with Home Depot. The others I have not had good experience with. It seems like when you take things in to get fixed it is either it is out of warranty, which I just want it fixed, but they have to send it in and it is months before you get it back.

Friend took his lawn mower back after the first summer, it was out of warranty, but he just wanted it fixed. It was 4 months later that he got the mower back and it didn't work when he got it back. He ended up taking it to a small engine repair guy. It was a push mower but it is typical
