This guy built his flagpole about 6 years ago and most every news outlet has done a story about it.

WOODWARD, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa couple flies what might be the largest flag in the state at their rural home in this central Iowa town.

The flag at Mark and Sue Pleva's home measures 30 feet by 60 feet and is displayed atop a 150-foot-tall flagpole. The flag is bigger than the ones that fly at Perkins' restaurants.

The flagpole, by some accounts, is the tallest freestanding flagpole in Iowa and the tallest residential pole in the country.

Now, see, that's going to require rudimentary wood working skills... I have the rude part down pat! Not so good on the measure, measure, cut and fit part. :licking:

My dad called me "the wood butcher".

OK Moss; there is a purported problem but it is one easily solved. Now listen closely.

Find a nice Ash sapling, trim all the branches except the very top ones and keep doing so at least twice a year till the sapling is as tall as the desired flag pole. Wait two more years and take your hatchet and cut down sapling. Use the hatchet as a draw knife and peel all the bark from the sapling. You now have a Flag pole!

No measuring or cyphering required.

You know, as a kid, I did that. With an ash tree, too! We had many ash trees. It is one of my favorite trees.

I better start now before the emerald ash borers kill em all.
