I bought 4 years ago a pellet stove. Figured with the cost of fuel it wasn't a bad idea. I don't know too much about them other than they burn hot. What's the effiency rating on them compared to say a 90+ propane furnace.

I have 4 tons of pellets delivered to my home for $159/ton each year. The price has stayed within $5 for the last 3 years. This is my primary heat source as I have it tie into my plenum and heat the whole house. This year propane is 1.55/gallon around WNY. Even roughly I figure I pocket $500 in savings which has almost paid the the cost of the stove by now.

Anyone know anything on pellet stoves as far as technical specs vs propane??

Depends on how efficient it is and at what BTu's per hour. I just got a NEW Amaizablaze Cherokee corn stove for the donut so here is its data.

It is for the garage since I already have a 40K BTU Vermont Casting stove in my finished basement.

One question for each poster....
1... where do you get corn in CT to feed your stove????

2... What does pellet stoves have to do with oil and lubrication? I believe that this thread belongs in the Rural Living Forum... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Junkman can you move it? I don't know how. Thought fuel was a good spot for this but suppose it doesn't fit here.

I live in MA and my wife is a buyer at Agway Distrabution; hence I get all the corn at Agway. But any feed store should have it.

Is this the size Vermont Casting you have, this one is about five yrs. old and does a wonderful job. I think this one is the large Federal?

Can a pellet stove run corn as fuel? Your talking about the center core chopped up into pellet size. Could you run that in a pellet stove.

depends some stoves can and some can't. Some you can mix the corn in with the pellets.

That is the best looking stove they make, we looked at those, but decided to go with the large federal with blower. Sure would be nice to not have dirty wood and ashes to mess with. You got a nice setup.
