As a former resident of Pennsylvania, we were experiencing a rise in home invasions in the rural areas. These tended to be two or more assailants. Most came from Baltimore and Philadelphia who were expecting "easy pickin's".
I have kept a couple handguns stashed around the house for years...no kids here, so no problems there.
I do the same here in Vermont...although when my wife's sister comes up (from Lebanon, NH) with her kids, the pistols are secured during their visits.
Now, VT's Governor recently stated that there is a influx of heroin coming into the state...Boston and NYC. We will see those home invasions...no doubt about that. And one cannot beat an AR-15 (or equivalent) for these types of crimes.
Our plan (should it happen to us) is to beat it to the bedroom, call the cops (we won't see a rapid response though). As long as the assailants stay out of the bedroom...well, there isn't a lot for them to steal and we do have insurance. If they do come into the bedroom, the odds are they won't be walking out.
BTW, I always suggest using frangible ammunition for a home defense firearm. It'll stop an intruder, but won't go through walls (to a point).
Also, it wasn't that Australian who caused me to leave TBN...it was the removal of my sig line (which I've changed...but this one is a temp until I figure out a better one).
Good to see you back Roy.
