I made one out of 2-55gal poly tanks and 100' drain line covered with fabric sleeve to keep out the dirt. This was at a camp with limited use. It's work fine for 5 years now.
Cost under $100.00 The poly tanks were surplus soap tanks at $10 each and drain was the rest.

( What about installing a 1500 gallon plastic tank in the ground that is made for a water tank. You know them white tanks that you can buy at tractor supply. )

If you use plastic, be sure to take a lot of care to put it where rainwater will not tend to run in around it. You'll need to make sure the ground around it is also compacted very well. It could become a beachball and float to the top of the ground if it's not full and it gets surrounded by water (like from a leak).

Have you looked into composting septic systems that require no tank, no chemicals and have no smell. You can see them at www.sun-mar.com I wil admit that I am a dealer since I had a problem similiar to yours and did some research. They work great and are low $ to run.

The floating septic tank reminds me of a story that never fails to make me laugh when I think about it.

My buddy's dad runs a hog farm in northern Indiana. He bought a rail car to use as a manure holding tank. He hired a guy to bury the car for him using some piece of heavy machinery the 'guy' had. I think this was in the fall of the year.

The next spring they got alot of rain, not atypical.

The rail car started to float, just like you warned on the plastic septic tanks. I went back there to look at it with my buddy the day after I heard the story. The front third or so of the rail car is sticking up out of the ground behind one of the hog barns. Man oh man is that ever a mess that I'm glad I don't have to deal with.
