There are some good ideas in that link. thank you.

If I could have found one locally in time for Saturday's roofing, I would have tried this as the lift mechanism:

my winch was electric, 12v, I had it hooked to a marine battery and a charger.
I think it was about 24" wide. paralell to the ladder ( I think) LOL brain is tired today, this darn weather!!!!!

This is 16" wide by 16' long. I went with a vertical sled built on a 2x4 frame laid on the flat side. The frame ends are beveled in the photo of the underside. It will lift a bundle of shingles. It's not quick. An electric winch or a rope winch might be faster. Cost about $20 for the 2x4's, $20 for the winch/cable, and $5.00 each for two pulleys. I had the 3" inch channel steel laying around. Would have preferred something lighter, but that's what I had and I'm out of shielding gas to weld thinner metal anyway so I used flux core mig.

Will give it a better test run this weekend if the rain holds off.
