so i've been messing around with trying to build my own subsoiler. i got one of our local steel shops to cut me some shank extensions out of 3/4" plate for my box scrape rippers. my first attempt at welding them didn't work out so well, so i broke out my angle grinder and beveled both sides of the extension as well as the top of the ripper shank. i laid in full penetration groove welds, and built the bevel back up to flush with the surface of the plate. i only had time to make a couple of passes last night, but it held together.
so here is my question...how fast should i be running when dragging my subsoiler? my little branson is geared pretty low (12 total forward gears), but i think it would work a little better if i had a little momentum, rather than trying to "creep" through the hard stuff. also, how far apart should my "rows" be?
thanks,
