Hooking chain to the bottom bar- how do you?

Yup I have a clevis pin doing permanent residence in my draw bar. If I need my Ballast drum I put a cable sling through it and wrap the drum so the loop is on the other side

I wouldn't make a habit of pulling heavy loads with the chain hooked to the "box" the drawbar fits into. The chain hook puts a lot of load on a small area and you might bend some steel you'd rather have flat. When the bar is in there the load is spread out over a larger area through the bolts or pins.

Sure, you're probably right. But, the bottom plate of this thing is very stout and it is the same plate that takes the load of the (single) pin that holds the drawbar in place (but that load is shared by the top plate also). Nothing I'm likely to pull is likely to bend it. But as I said, I've got a huge clevis that fits in the drawbar should the need arise.

The clevis is a bit slow for my use, pullin' logs out of the woods, I prefer a grab hook that has a pin, just like the clevis.

I use a grab hook that is pinned to the draw bar. Purchased it at TSC.

I've not seen one of those. That looks handy as pockets on a shirt. How much?

Thanks! There's holes all over my tractors for some of these (lift arms and front weight mount to assist with chaining down), stake pockets on trailer, etc. Good job.

Ronjhall,
I purchased the same grab hook and have it on my drawbar. To that I have a few links of 3/8 grade 70 chain hooked to skidding tongs to drag trunks out of the woods.. Good to see you shop at the same places I do.

JohnK, so you drag logs out flat on the ground?? Ever get front end of log hung up on rock or something. Could you lift front end of log off the ground with 3-pt and still pull with draw bar??
