Hornets nest

If you want to get rid of live hornets, or yellow jackets. just put a large electronic bug killers next to the nest. Then, turn it on and and tap the nest, use long pvc pipe. They keep attacking what ever is killing their buddies, until they are all electrocuted. Worked for me. It was a payback thing.

Finally got to visit the farm this weekend and took a pix of the hornets nest.
It's still very active and I didn't get too close.

I always collect them in November and have never had a problem

Hornets kill wasps, therefore you can hang a hornet nest in a prominent location of an outbuilding and keep the building wasp nest free.

My, that's a purty thing...hope you can collect it safely and while it's in good shape. Glad we don't have those here, just paper wasps.. generally not very aggressive at all.

I harvested my hornet's nest this weekend. I sprayed it with clear and it's looking pretty good. It's roughly 18" tall and 10" wide at it's widest point.

I am a little concerned about what appears to be unhatched "pods" inside. Does anyone know if they can still hatch? That would really make my day!

Edit: Thanks to Hornetboy! I scrolled back up this string, found his links to the Hornet website and determined any larva that hatch will die. It's all good!

I got a chance to watch that in action last week. Saw a hornet zero in, kill and haul away a wasp. Really cool. I have a question; how far from the nest do hornets range? I want to know how far he went to kill that wasp and if it isn't too far, I'll start to look for the nest.
