As the title states. 65,000 miles and the steering is making a horrible noise when you turn the wheel at any speed. Nothing looks broke. It almost sounds like it needs a shot of grease but I could not find anything to grease.

Anybody else ran into this?

What motor? Reason I ask is the 5.0 and Ecoboost use totally different steering systems.

It has electric steering then. My guess is it's something in that component. Sucks because you are just out of warranty.

Good luck.

I did a quick search but couldn't find anything similar on the web. I'll probably take it to the dealer tomorrow.

Curious, Is it a whining noise, Grinding noise, Can you give a example of the noise you're hearing.

Yes and Yes. Hard to describe it, like I said, sounds like it needs a shot of grease but I see nothing to grease. I need to have a closer look but I've been super busy. I'm going to be really PO'd if this costs me more than $400. I expect much more from a truck at 65K miles.

Might need a shot of power steering fluid.

I don't think it takes any power steering fluid as Diamond Pilot stated it's electric assist.

I have been using the truck sparsely but today the steering locked up in the driveway and gave an error code. Now the truck is totally undriveable.

I did some digging and folks are saying that it's a $1400 repair. It's about $700 for the unit itself. Now I'm really PO'd.

Wow, I would think that could be a major safety issue, if it happened to lock up while you were driving at any speed.
Please let us know what they find at the dealer, and if you don,t mind sharing, the cost of repair.

That's not good. My 2012 Eco Boost has 70K on it.

The reality is all vehicles are going to electric steering, water pumps, AC compressors, ect. I read on a Chevy Cruise, the 1st main stream vehicle to use Electronic Steering, that it took 7.5 HP to run the PS system. Going to electronic steering equated to over 1mpg gain.

Ford dealer says it's EAPS and it's going to cost $1800. What a joke. Everytime I start the truck and see "Built Ford Tough" I want to break the screen out.

That sucks. How far out of warranty are you? Any chance Ford would cover it as a gesture of goodwill? That is way too early to be failing.

BTW, Honda S2000 got electric power steering in 1999, and I have never heard of a failure with those vehicles. They sold in much more limited numbers, but by now many many of them have gone hundreds of thousands of miles. So while it's new on Fords, it's been around and has been time tested.

That sucks. I doubt they will do much since you are nearly double the miles for the warrant.

That sucks. I hope you can get it repairs for cheaper than that.

My new work truck is a 2014 F150 and I love that new steering system. Its so light and quiet. Really a nice set-up.

And just think we as consumers requested all of this technology, according to the manufacturers. I just read an article that the 2016 chevy Silverado will have retractable step rails. Can't wait to get 1. LOL

What is different? It was my understanding they were the same. I know the 6.2 liter varieties had old hydraulic systems.
