Horse Trailers

Does anyone know where to find the serial number on a horse trailer? I bought an old horse trailer that I fixed up, and now I want to register it. I need to get the serial number, but so far I haven't been able to find it. I suspect it's long gone, but maybe I missed it.

On our GN trailer, it's on a plate on the right side of the gooseneck.

If it's missing, NH requires the local police dept. to certify the # is missing, then they assigned a new #.

You can check with the highway patrol, they tend to find various places mfg's place them, and they do put them in multiple places many times. If you know the make you could also contact the manufacturer. If you can't find one, Highway patrol can oftentimes issue the certificate and a new VIN.

check inside the tounge tube near where the hitch mount is...sometimes you can look down that tube and they'll have put an additional sticker inside.

On some older trailers I've seen they would write the serial number on with a welder instead of attaching a tag.

Check with your local license agency. Depending on the weight it may not matter. I have an old home built trailer and all I needed in ohio was a weight slip to register it.

NY DMV will issue me a new number if I get it weighed. I was just trying to save the hassle of taking half a day off of work to take it down to the local gravel place to get it weighed, but I guess I'm gonna have to. No big deal!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
