Hot temps, don't know how southerners do it

It's been quite awhile since I've seen a house with an attic fan, but they used to seem to me to really be a great idea. But now . . . well, I don't figure on turning off the air-conditioning at all, day or night, for the next three and a half months.

Heat index was 108 today. And I was stuck on the scraper today building a berm and hauling cover material. I hate the fan on the scraper it puls hot air outt and blows it around the seam of the engine compartment plus the exhaust manifold is right beside you behind a 1/8 steel fire wall. I dont mind the heat some times but it was muggy today but at least Im allowed to wear shorts.

If working outside in the direct sun - Start manual chores early in the morning and be done by noon. After 6pm start back in until dark which is about 9pm.
Drink lots of fluids, seek shade and if you really get overheated take a break.

Well, the wimpy Canadian in me is sweating bullets today and it's only 75 degrees (23.5 c). I don't know how folks in the south of the US or other parts of the world can work when it gets so hot.

Any tips from experienced southern folks? Drink a lot of water, take breaks, visit the shade regularly, etc.

Heck, I can help you with 40 below and not blink an eye but get it up over 80 degrees and I'm a mess!!!

When I got up this morning it was 57 and yesterday morning it was 49 so I guess we are headed toward a heat wave. Been raining off and on for the past four days and the weather reports are calling for rain into the middle of next week.

Everything is green though and no one seems to be sweating too much. Around here 35 degrees is tee shirt weather.

Our temps over the last month or so might have topped out in the mid 80s. We did get into the 90s sometime this spring but that was just weird. :D

Today it going to be around 98. Saturday will be 100-102 depending on the Weatherman. :) Heat index up around 110. I have to split firewood Saturday. I wanted to get a start on the wood this afternoon but it would be too danged hot even in the shade. So Saturday I'll get up at my usual work wake up time. Maybe earlier. And get outside to work as early as possible.

At least splitting the wood with the hydraulic splitter is not that hard. Just listen to music on the mp3 player and split. Not really looking forward to chore like I usually do.

Later,
Dan

The funny thing is the guys from the south in about 6 months are going to be posting asking how the guys in the north survive the cold. :)

I grew up in Michigan and we had about a week of "HOT" weather. Something above 85. No AC back then either.. Then I moved to southern Indiana were we have months of 90 plus. I always tell people I love the cold way better than the heat. In the cold I can keep putting layers of cloths on, in the heat once your naked that's it. :D :D

Yea and what's wrong with that? We're only happy when we're bitching. :) And the Texas weather gives us plenty of material.

I spent 3 hours this afternoon spraying herbicide followed by another 2 hours trimming and edging the yard before a full days mowing tomorrow. It was in the mid 90's I think.

Like others I sometimes start early in the morning but when it's 75 or 80 degrees at that time you're still going to end up soaked. My solution ... save the bush hogging for the afternoon and enjoy that air conditioned cab. Aaaahhhh yes. Now that's comfort.

Yep, our low this morning is 80, forecast to got to 97 today. And I'll not likely be among those southerners complaining about the cold. The only time I worry about it being too cold is if I have reason to worry about water pipes freezing and bursting.:)
