Hot Tub Experiences?

Not sure if lucky or not, but my buddy intercepted a 1997 Sundance Montego and told the fellow I would probably take it from him while he had it on top of his 4x4's snowmobile deck heading to the dealer to dump it off.
I used two engine lifts and slings to raise it from the very high position on top of his deck.
it took four days to thaw it out. He had enough water out of the pumps even though there was ice in them to prevent them from swelling and splitting from the freeze.
Rebuilt the bottom 2x4 rail and corners, fixed a 2" pipe from one of the pumps that had failed, resealed some jets on one corner, good to go.
Biggest expense was the GFI Breaker, new 8 space sub panel and #8 Gauge wire.
Any way, filled with water (39'F) and brought it up to temp, used a couple 793D Rad Modules and a tiger torch to heat the water quickly, went in that night.
So far so good , I am guessing in it 15 out of the last 20 days.
Yes, makes me sleep good

ehanson, that sure looks well insulated. problem is when they spray foam on top of something you need to get to later...
Hot tubs are pretty simple, pumps and hoses and levers/diverter valves, and a heater. Glad yours worked.

An 8 person hot tub hold four people comfortable. Something like a six person tent holds three people. Fathers cringe when the the daughter fills the hot tub with girls. It's a water, filter, a tub scrub down and chemical change to get rid of the hair gell, makeup, fake tan and skin lotion.

Been there, done that. One time, the kids decided to just jump in with their shorts and T-shirts and tops on. The whole thing turned into a great big bubble bath, with the suds just overflowing like crazy. I guess there's a lot of soap left in clothing after it is washed!

Mount the pumps inside in the basement. I have had three the one that had the pumps in the basement is wonderful! When something fails and it will draining is a piece of cake. Everything in the open where you can work on it. then you can insulate the snot out of the tub. Last one didn't have that kick myself big time! No longer have it. If the pumps where inside I still would.

Costco has some good deals on spas. Their 'Aquaterra' brand is made by Watkins Mfg (same company that makes the Hot Springs brand).

We bought the Transport II model for out mountain property when they had a $500 off sale. Online price included delivery. It's not a fancy as the Hot Springs Vanguard we have in the city, but we're not disappointed since it was ~ 1/5 the price.

We've owned 3 spas made by Watkins since 1989 and have had a total of 3 service calls.

People with sensitive skin now have several options to choose from with regard to chemical packages.

We had a Costco hot tub for years and the thing was pretty bulletproof. Eventually the computer spa pack thingee went and it was so old we just scrapped the whole tub rather than pay the cost to fix it. We shopped around, our parents have a Bullfrog tub and it's amazing, but quite expensive so we settled on a "hydropool" unit. It's smaller, an alleged 5 person unit which means it's really good for 3 or less comfortably. The biggest differences I notice between our new tub and the older units my family has had are:
-resin shell instead of cedar. Way better, less work, more durable.
-way less electrical consumption. Our old 5kw heater, 2.5hp tub sucked at least $1.50 a day in the winter. The new tub has two pumps and just a big of a heater and we are using about .50 cents a day.
-cover technology has improved. The old covers absorbed moisture and it about a year the cover would weigh about the same as a locomotive. The newer closed cell foam covers are way better.

I know this is an old thread but we love our slightly smaller hot tub and use it all the time. They're great for your aches and pains and if you have a chill there's no better way to warm up the old bones.

Can you put a hot tub in a place with no water service and fill it with a hose and keep that water like a pool?

absolutely. But you have to drain and refill it every several months particularly with kids.
Just like a small pool.

We drain ours every five months and use the spa frog system no issues in going on two years. Good for sore muscles and circulation
