Mom said no. Dad sided with mom.

what you should have done is wait until you are 18 years old, and sign up anyway!. they'll forgive you after a while!..

I was 21, and a junior at U Mass..... and not wanting to be there.
Navy recruiter, E-6, had a movie projector in the student union, and saw me watching the carrier landings.
It was all down hill from there.
He had set the trap, and he snagged his prey.
Wish I knew who the guy was,.....I would LOVE to thank him for doing his job so well!

My poor mother was not happy with her only son.
But.....somewhat later, she became very proud.

Various reciprocating engine airplanes in the Navy.
Mostly the EC-121M which was used to pasively monitor what the bad guys were doing around the world.
Low altitude, close offshore surveillance (also Vietnam anti-aircraft missile warning)

Lots of "significant" intelligence info for that particular time", there were no satellites.
A very funny/scary story off the coast of Egypt, in the '67 Arab/Israeli war, but a bit too lengthy to explain.
