Oh, you're in Florida. I was thinking northerners must use them to prevent the tank freezing. With all the SC humidity it's a wonder I haven't heard of them.

I am not presently in Florida, but a toilet mix valve is a good idea in any climate, or season, where the toilet tank water temp is much different than the surrounding humid air.

I was in my first 9 days at the US Naval School of Preflight.
We had to surrender all out personal clothes upon check-in, and were issued a set of coveralls to wear, with only underwear beneath.
Spent 9 full days running, and drilling, in hot Florida in that set of coveralls, without them ever being washed.
It was nicknamed a "poopy suit", and after several days it could almost stand against the wall by itself.

I've got to remember never to enlist.

So, once again I am in the dark. I’ve never seen hot and cold feeds both near the toilet - just cold.

To install the mix valve do you have to run a hot feed to the toilet?

Or do you go to that magic place in the basement where the pipes come up thru the floors and install the valve there?

Go to.... "that magic place in the basement"!

In my case that "magic place" is in an old brick root cellar, among the 1/2 log floor beams, under my 290 year old house, with cobwebs everywhere.
I went to the local plumbing supply store today, but they were out of "toilet mix valves".
Came back home and ordered from Amazon ($20.06), E-Bay had them for $22.33.

Valve assembly is "B&K" brand cast brass, made in China or Taiwan.
This will be a job for some day when I eventually decide to bite the bullet.
Could be weeks,.... or even months!
Tough working spot for an 80 year old, but......I can do it!

Thanks! I went down there a few minutes ago and found where it could go.

Learned something today.

Sweating toilets.
They over heat when they work hard! LOL

Even up north they sweat.
Hot humid summer heat and cold water sure makes a loo sweat.
Just like a cold beer can sweats.

Today however most loo's have poly liners that insulate against that 'cold shock' that results in dripping.

Mixing hot/cold water would accomplish a deterrent but considering parts and labor not very cost effective compared to a foam liner.

Toilet used to sweat a lot up in NY. Well water was in the low 60's. Here in NC our County water is pumped out of the river and is p*** warm so the commodes don't sweat hardly at all.
