I just returned to NJ Saturday after spending 2.5 weeks in north/central Arkansas, so I've been dealing with this heat & humidity for the last couple weeks. I find that as I get older I tolerate the heat less & less...
30 years ago was my first visit to the desert. Spent the afternoon at White Sands National Monument in NM with the GF & her 2 kids, & her sister & her 2 kids. I was the only one who didn't get sick from the heat. 110ー & no humidity felt about the same as 90 does here in NJ with humidity. I just stayed in the shade as much as possible (picnic tables all had canopies) & drank 2 waters for every beer (both of them). Funny, we (GF, her sister & I) were just laughing about this last week.
35 years ago I was also a snipe working in the engineroom. At least the heat was consistent summer or winter, unlike the deckies... We did spend the month of June in Gitmo for refresher training & a shake-down cruise of the new ship. Now THAT was miserable! Tropical humidity, 95ー air temp, 95ー rain, 95ー water temp in the bay. There was no escape except on board in the A/C, which was kept around 70ー, making it even more miserable to go on deck!
Spent an hour & a half cutting the lawn Sunday, then another couple hours running the RM in the fields. You'd think sitting & driving around wouldn't cause me to sweat, but I was soaked by the time I quit. Finished up the fields Monday after another 2.5 hours of mowing, & again, soaked when finished. I'm sure I could deal with it better if the heat wasn't so sudden & intense.
At least it looks like we'll be getting a break tonite & getting back to more "normal" temps. Like some of you, I really don't mind the heat, but I hate being all sweaty & wet.
