DF,
Doesn't always have anything to do with LCD or analog. My 2005 case DX33 has an analog meter. Here's the wording straight from the manual
"Proof Meter - records the hours and portions of hours that your tractor has been operated regardless of engine RPM"
I would suggest it has more to do with your specific tractor and brand than what type of display you have.

Certainly a tractor could use a simple electric clock to work as a
"proof meter" and have an analog display. I have some of those
add-on hour meters. I have never seen a mechanical clock with
an electronic (LCD or LED) display. Engine-driven mechanical "hour
meters" use a cable and gears to turn a numerical analog
display, resulting in true hours only at the rated RPM. It is
possible to use such a cable, connected to a digital counter
that would yield a similar output on an electronic display. I doubt
this is done, however. So I stick by my story. If anyone knows
first hand of a diesel engine with a drive cable and digital electronic
"hour" meter, please tell.
BTW, most cars have gone to electronic tachometers, since it is
cheaper and more reliable to use the ignition signal and a digital
counter than an analog meter and cable. Diesels are harder cuz
there is no ignition signal, of course, so a flywheel position sensor
is needed.
