Hour Meter Issue

i would much rather schedule fluid changes on a 1:1 hr meter basis rather that engine speed hrs that almost always would end up being more hrs on engine than recorded. that was my only point in this discussion ;)

But 2000 hrs of idling is vastly different than 2000hrs of hard work. ANd with a 1:1 meter, how do you know?

2000hrs of idling is more like 500hrs of hard wear. I would want the hour meter to account for that and record 2000hrs if idling at only 500hrs.

That makes it easy to tell the difference between 2000hrs of hard wear, and 2000hrs (500 on the meter) of idling.

The idling truck scenario would indicate a maintenance routine based on odometer readings, which in a vehicle most likely without a tach, much less a recording one, would fail to log an estimated 1100 to 1300 miles per week if running at high idle for five hours a day.
From a revenue generating standpoint, going with the electric meter that runs whenever the switch is on give a true representation of actual time the machine is on the job. That's why aircraft rental is always based on Hobbs time vs. tach time.
