Johnny, first you need to know which of two types of "hour meter" or "proof meter" you have. One type is nothing more than an electric clock that runs any time the key is turned on. So you could check that one against your watch to see if it's running right; i.e., registering one hour in one hour. Now of course if you should shut down the engine but leave the key turned on, it's going to register hours while it's just sitting there. The other type is tied to engine rpm; runs off a cable. That type usually registers one hour in one hour only if the engine is running at PTO speed. For example, if PTO speed is 2600 rpm and you're running at 1300 rpm, it'll take 2 hours for it to register one hour.
And I don't know which type your tractor has, but I'll bet some of our other members do.
