hour meter

New to the forum, and I posted the same question on a different topic before I found this one. So, sorry for any duplicates. Anyway, looking at Yanmar 2000. Seller is an individual, and he says it has 1024 hours on it. He states he bought it with over 900 hour on it, and it now read 24 hours because the meter resets to zero after it hits 1000 hours. Is this true? Also, he says he bought it from Ohlo Farm Equipment in Sumrall, MS. Anyone know anything about these guys and their reputation? Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the site :welcome:It is possible for the HR meter to have rolled over.. I have no knowledge of the place where the tractor was purchased.

Yes its true..on 4 digit tachs it flips over after 999.9

An hour meter is useless as a determining factor of tractor use or how hard it was used it's just to easy to change or unplug them an hour meter is useful to the owner to watch service times and nothing else , What difference would there be of a tractor run 500 hrs on flat hard ground at 1/2 throttle compared to the tractor run 500 hours in the muddy hills pulling logs /stumps and beat on daily basis at full throttle ? If your not sure of use or abuse hire a equipment mechanic to assess it's health or pay the price for repairs later .:2cents:

hour meters are good for knowing when it time to conduct service. they do nothing to show the condition of the tractor.

Yea what was said and the fact that i can buy an hour meter from Hoye that reads 000.0 for maybe $65??? i have not looked how much they cost but you can buy them new. Or i could buy one used and it could read anything!!!
