House Burned Up -- Anyone Know about Insurance?

Instead of video tape and having to store them someplace other then the house that might burn up in a fire, take digital pictures and post them online. My house is documented on here and I have a bunch of pictures on Photobucket. My big concern would be the items that would be lost in a fire that I no longer have receipts for. Thinking of that, my receipts are all in the house and would probably burn up with the rest of the house.

Now that I think about it a little more, I need to take more pictures of what I have and add them to Photobucket.

Residential fire sprinklers this type uses PEX tubing and connects domestic water system and sprinkler systems together.

Residential fire sprinklers will control and extinguish the fire with 1 sprinkler operating. For new construction this is the way to go if you are building a new home. This has becomes a requirement of the International Building Code for residential homes in 09.

I talked to the local building inspector about using PEX for the potable water system.

She said it was approved as an "alternate" material, but that many people had problems with it. Evidently, we have a lot of rats in Woodside, and they like to chew through the PEX tubing. Told me that a neighboring town approved it and they just had a rat chew which severely damaged a house.

This is the non-pex alternative, it is more expensive then the PEX since it is a dedicated system i.e. sprinklers only. The PEX pipe has only been on the market for fire sprinklers for a few years, blazemaster has been around for at 10-15 years, it is also used for commercial fire sprinkler systems.

Yes PEX for fire sprinklers, must be covered with gypsum, and wet sprinklers only. With the code change requiring all homes to have sprinkler system, they figured they do not have enough sprinkler contractors to install all the systems that will need to go in. They figured the plumbers are on site so let them install the systems. Also a PEX system is going to be cheaper to install then a system using Blazmaster piping.

I am on the authority having jurisdiction side of the house, I approve what goes in.

What is the difference between this proprietary brand name cpvc and generic cpvc so far as sprinkler systems is concerned?

I knew a guy once who said he was going to install a halon fire suppression system in his kitchen because his MIL (up in years) kept leaving the burners on the stove going.

The UL listing and test they had to pass for fire protection and the $$ they spent to get that little label on the pipe.

Do you have any updates on this? Did you settle with the insurance company. I saw your name in a diffeent topic and then thought of this topic. Did everything come out as you wished it to or is it still going on?
