House Burned Up -- Anyone Know about Insurance?

Insurance runs the world. Luckily, a stolen truck (~$18,000) is the most serious thing I have had to deal with.

Thats great news!!!! Did the adjuster accomplish this for you?

Hard to tell, but I am convinced that without the Public Adjustor, I would have received only about half of the current settlement offer. Plus, we are going to go after every last penny available from the policy.

Good luck. It sounds like State Farm has been dealing with you in "bad faith" if they have just now come around to paying the undisputed amount. It's my understanding that they owe you this as soon as they know the undisputed amount of the loss. ALL insurance companies are likely to engage in bad faith if the person handling the claim is too aggressive, lazy or poorly trained.

Hopefully you will be able to get some money out of them with a seperate suit for 'bad faith claims handling'.

I had a case where a limb fell on a house I have. The adjuster flatly refused to pay anything reasonable for our temporary repairs saying that we had the obligation to protect our own property. We do. But they are obligated to pay for the cost of it. She kept saying that " the computer won't let me enter that". When I asked for her company's written position on that issue she found a way to include it.

Looong story short - she rewrote her 'estimate' 5 times to get it correct and her final payment was 12 times the amount of the first offer.

She actually told me she didn't know how to tell what kind of decking my roof had since the shingles had it covered up. She claimed she had over 20 years experience as an adjuster and didn't know how to get in the attic and look at the underside.

She refused to consider particular items that the Texas Dept. of Insurance specifically has addressed as the responsibility of the insurace company until I requested that she put her position in writing. Once cornered she found a way to get the computer to allow her to include the items.

Sorry to take up so much space. I hope you get it worked out and get some additional compensation for the treatment you have had to endure from the adjuster.

just went through same ****, told me I could salvage obviously ruined paneling, just paid me for cleaning in . they already know the numbers it will cost you to fight them. they are gonna give just a little bit more and beat you out it the rest got me for 9K off policy limit when I obviously had a total loss claim and only had the house insured for half what I should have. that adjuster is paid to rib people nd are good at it

Insurance companies don't afford state of the art office headquarters buildings by paying out claims.

To protect my interest in a house I had to pay for it to be re-roofed. One roofing contractor misunderstood me and thought it was an insurance job. He straight out told me if it were XYZ Insurance Co.(it was) he wouldn't bid it because they never settle up on payment.

Fast forward about a year... a hot water line began leaking in the crawl space. It was a small enough leak that the water heater could keep up so it remained a hot water leak and steam filled the crawl space. In less than a week (it went undetected and unchecked for 3~4 days) mold was everywhere there were floor penetrations {kitchen , bath, laundry, roof vent space inside wall) and in the crawl space. XYZ's adjuster said it was a ventilation issue and not covered. Never mind I've owned the house for 30 years without a mold issue.
