How’s Eddie?

Mom received second Moderna yesterday... zero reaction to first.

It has been a strange 36 hours.

She was sharper then in a long time and energetic.

Wanted to go to where she trained for her long distance runs and take the 9 mile loop trail... today she is 87. Had not remembered the training area for several years

Along the trail she seemed to know where all the branch trails led and greeted everyone along the way.

It was as if she regained years in mental ability... we did 4.1 miles.

About midnight started feeling bad. Almost like a zombi by morning as if she aged 10 years. Not able to speak on the phone to brothers and sisters.

I stayed home to be with her... By 6 pm she was doing better.

Just makes me wonder what caused her mental ability to peek 6 hours after the dose and it was not just me as neighbors even commented.
Maybe an adrenaline spike?

Despite all that has been defined with Covid in the last year, IMO there is still plenty we don't know....

Thanks to all who have shared their experiences here, it means more to hear it directly from people we know in this virtual community.

I wish all a speedy recovery and I want to extend my condolences to those who have lost family, friends, co-workers.

Fortunate so far, none of my family has been infected. Vaccine supply is slim to none for most of Canada, and has been triaged to the elderly and critical workers first.

This ^ shortage here only adds to my multi-decade disgust for the abandonment of domestic manufacturing here.

I work in an essential industry, so have worked on-site non-stop through all of this mess. I'm about to move to a new job/employer very shortly. CV is infectious enough to travel anywhere, but one of the things I really value in my new job is that it is a secure building, card-locked, so no public access at all. A small upside today, but definitely appreciated by me....

Be Well All.....

Rgds, D.

Weird side effects maybe? Or some other stimuli. Who knows. Hope she remains well.

My first Pfizer shot was around 5pm. I was fine all evening. Went to bed. Woke up at 4:30am feeling "weird". By 6:30am I felt like I had COVID again, with fuzzy head and general malaise. Stayed home from work. By 4:00pm I was fine again.

So I was a bit skeptical about getting the 2nd shot, but did it anyway, as my side effects weren't that bad. 2nd shot 2 days ago I was fine. No effects that night. Nothing the following day. Felt a little sleepy at work, but was still quite productive as I move around all day.

I heard that if you had Covid previous to the vaccine, your 1st shot will be worse. If you haven't had Covid, your 2nd shot is worse. This of course isn't in every case. My wife just had her 2nd Moderna shot and the first 12hrs were not bad but the second 24hrs were tough. Body aches, headache, slight nausea, and just wanted to stay in bed. Her 1st shot was not bad at all.

No reaction to the first Moderna shot. Second shot gave me the flu/chills/headache for a day. Mild, nothing to worry about.

If anyone's still on the fence about getting vaccinated, I can't convince you. However, just from our personal experience, my wife and I know 37 friends, family or coworkers that have had it, including us. 4 of them died from it. Those 4 were all over 70 years old. Out of the 9 of our immediate family that had it, my mother in-law had it the worst. She is 83. When I found her, she was incoherent, lying half off of her bed, half on the floor. Didn't know who was who or what was what or where she was. I called an ambulance and she spent 5 days in the hospital, came home, and had to go back to the hospital again for a day. It took her several weeks, but she recovered well and is independent again.

All indications I've seen are that the vaccines do very well to keep you out of the hospital even if you do catch it. It's a good bet it works well. I'd play the odds and get the vaccine.

Good luck and best wishes to all of you. Stay safe.

The surprise to me is post second shot mom alzheimer's was nearly gone and energy and alertness off the scale... reading newspaper and active engaging in conversation.

The next morning worse than ever. Kept asking my name and not able to even speak on the phone with slurred speech and needing help to get out of bed.

Now 48 hours and back to baseline except for arm... which is very sore.

That's gotta be hard to see her come back and forth like that.

Makes you wonder why Alzheimer's patients can pop in and out. Maybe something of value will come out of the research that will follow as to how COVID, the vaccine, etc. affects other diseases.
