How 2 Reverse 12v Electric over Hydraulic pump

I was having a problem with a scissor-lift 24V dc I pulled the 3 coils that operate forward and reverse to remove the valves .Got called out on service call ,returned cleaned valves and reinstalled coils .would not work all 3 were burnt , found out someone plugged it back in and tried to move it.

3 coils@$110 each

I've never heard of that before and I've been working on those systems for years. I'm not doubting that it happened, just saying I never heard of it before.

What happened to your lock-out tag-out procedures? Anytime I was working on a piece of equipment and had to leave it, I always at least pulled a main fuse.

Thank you everyone for helping me figure out the manual release (which did change the direction of the cylinder) and how to test the magnetic servo coil "red thingy". I did not take it off the shaft when running current through it - played it safe so the two sides can keep arguing that dilema, LOL.

Now I am perplexed on how to wire this thing up as trying various ways has not let me use the handheld remote. So, I made an incredibly boring video for those who might want to help an idiot figure out a relay. I have experimented around but I doubt I have blown the 150amp relay but who knows. I may try and pick up a continous duty 200 amp (14-16ohm) relay from O'reillys tomorrow. If that is not my problem, someone please stop me. Have no clue what the 14-16 ohms mean...I'm an idiot. Here is the proof; the link to the video. Password is my id jb889 .

In case this thread is dead I am going to start a new discussion in this section called wiring a 12v electric over hydraulic unit. So, please post any electric help with this hydraulic unit there.

Thanks everyone,
Bruce

I don't think your drawing is complete, but maybe it is..He has an UP/DN switch. In the UP position, I believe the motor gets B+ , which runs the motor, and the solenoid is not energized, and the cylinder will extend. With the switch in the DN position, B+ is applied to the motor, it runs the same direction, but the solenoid is now energized, and the flow is reversed, and the cylinder retracts. UP position 12v goes to the relay, motor runs.
DN position, 12v goes to the relay to run the motor, and to the solenoid which reverses fluid. If you lose power, and the cylinder is out, and if you need to retract manually, turn the black knob on top of the solenoid, this should release the fluid from the cylinder to return to tank.

Yes i did make a mistake I drew it like a plow pump.

The pump would run in both directions and solenoid would be energized in only one.
A double pole double throw switch would be used with the pump on in either direction and solenoid on on one only one direction.

"turn the black knob on top of the solenoid, this should release the fluid from the cylinder to return to tank."

That black knob was just a threaded cover with an o-ring. Under that was a tiny brass knob that was screwed in all the way. 5 or 6 turns and it would back completely out and the pump would then run the other way. I guess I will have to test that with a bale stuck in the up position to see if turning the knob (with no power on) will drain fluid back to the resevoir. However, my cows don't care where the bale is when hungry. When feeding bales with my previous 2wd truck and winch operated spear I would occasionally get stuck 50 yds from where I needed to be. Cows would surround the truck to gorge and I would just leave it overnight some times.

b.t.w. In my electrical thread I just announced I have resolved all wiring issues. Dang connector needed extreme force to seat.

I am in the camp that votes that for most things you are likely to see, AC coils may burn when disconnected and put under power, but DC will not.

This is completely irrelevant, but it just popped into my mind..one of my profs used to say this over and over "because I want you to remember at least one thing from my course"

"When three windings 120 degrees apart in space carry three currents 120 degrees apart in time, a ROTATING MAGNETIC FIELD results which can do useful work."

hy there i am new to this forum, hello
to your hydraulig-pump. believe it is simple after i watched your video
black wire is ground, and the blue is 12 Volt. i simple describe it how i think it works. Blue is connected to the Battery 12 Volt wich when you trigger the up switch wich you have connected to the 3 prong connector will trigger the celinoid on the starter (motor). soon as you let the ON switch go, then the celinoid will drop the power to starter. when you hit the down switch it will acctuate your red celinoid wich will reverse the fluid to go back (down).
Not sure if it also will run the starter (motor), let me know if it does- it is then a better Unit, simple ones the motor wont run when release (down). Weight on cylinder pushes fluid back. hopefully this helps.
