Pete - I've taken to roasting my own coffee these days. Do you guys sell green beans, too, or am I strictly competition now? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

>>and to think he had cancer between his legs before his first win

Anyone that hasn't read his autobiography should..even if you don't cycle you will enjoy it and it is a quick read.

A major wrong impression is that he "only" had testicular cancer. In fact, it started there but it was in his brain and lungs (and maybe other places to)...once you realize how close to death he was, the amazing story is even more amazing.

Re: How about Lance \"YouDaMan\" Armstrong?

Yes, Lance is an amazing individual. Something of a hero for me, I've got a poster here in my office and he's on this months wall calendar. It's too bad cycling isn't more popular in the mainstream media because he'd be a great role model to get out in front of today's youth. The demands of his profession make it difficult to get as much air time as Tiger Woods and Jeff Gordon. While they are interviewing, Lance is training /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I put in over 5000 miles a year and I'm totally amazed at what he can do on a bike /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh yeah, he's on my computer as well...

And his web site is pretty cool...http://www.lancearmstrong.com/index.html

We sell a few green beans, but not many. You can actually do a great job of roasting your own coffee in one of those hot air popcorn poppers. Send me a shipping address (privately) and I'll send you some green beans. Do you like American, African, Indonesian, or ..? Pete

Re: How about Lance "YouDaMan" Armstrong?

So here's the real question. Where any of you fans 5 or 6 years ago when he won the Tour De Trump/Tour Dupont. Can't remember which it was that year, but that's when I began to follow his career. Truth is, he wasn't nearly as likable back then, but he was one of the most impressive endurance machines nature ever made human.
Lactic acid tollerance was unbelievable back then (probably still is).

Didn't read the biography, never read biographies by athletes, but have followed his career for years.
As a fan, I think he may become the second greatest tour rider ever, even post chemo. Only time will tell, but I'm hoping he does. If he wins a couple more and make bicycling a big sport in the US, I'll give him my vote for greatest American tour rider ever.

Toddler - I remember. And I also remember that "he wasn't nearly as likable back then", but then how many people that age with that amount of talent are? He's matured a lot, which seems to elude many with far less talent. Pretty impressive...

I remember seeing a piece on him on TV not too long ago - my wife said it pretty well: "I like him a lot better now." (Period is ok inside the quotes here...)

Off the bike he's mellowed a lot. On it he's matured.
Near death experiences can do a lot to teach you what's important in life.

I really love watching him win! Hope he wins this one!

Re: How about Lance "YouDaMan" Armstrong?

I vaguely remember his wins here in the US, but once again the press is no friend to cycling in this country. We can't even get our local paper to publish our local crit results yet they sure keep up with the local bowling tournaments /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Is the coverage any better down in his home state Bird and others?

Be sure to catch the minute-by-minute updates on Velonews /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Probably so, I don't see much cycling news otherwise, but the papers and TV do talk about Lance.
