And other heavy stuff so it does damage factory box
I haul pea stone for septic systems behind houses from front house where I have ten wheeler dump because they can’t get back there
I put fifth wheel hitch plates in bed
So I have four pins and plug so I can lift out and in in five minutes it

I like get small trailer
To mount it on in winter so cut pull it with tractor in the woods for fire wood instead of this old trailer that doesn’t dump

there is no way I would choose a dump insert over a dump trailer. Even my smallest dump single axel can haul more than that insert will and it cost less than a new insert.

I agree - I have a dual axle dump trailer - but there are also single axle dump trailers that can be bought NEW for $4000. These would be 5 x 8 with 5 K GVW and 3500 lb. payload. Would also include brakes and power up-and down. Sure-Trac and Griffin are just 2 examples of manufacturers that produce them.

I had a dump bed insert in a old F250. Worked good, but my tractor at the time (TC31 new holland) would just barely reach into it. I moved to a bigger tractor, reach was not a problem any more. As time went on both tractors would bump the truck. That made me realize I didn't want the insert in a good truck. Then came the problem of keeping the old F250 running, inspected, licensed and insured. So I went and bought a dump trailer. The trailer is lower so it would have worked for my little tractor. Some of the other benefits were, no truck to dent, no insurance or inspection, just a trailer license. The dump trailer will hold at least 1/3 more than the insert. I can load it and then haul it with my tractor or my truck. I also use it as my woods trailer behind the tractor. I have always been able to get loaded at any stone company or pit I have gone to. I would never go back to an insert.

No insurance or inspection depends on how you use it. If there's any commercial use whatsoever, you do need both of them. Also, your tow vehicle needs to be registered/insured for the weight of both the truck and trailer. I believe that the last applies for everybody, not just commercial users.

That depends on the state and how they license their trailers. In New York (for smaller and non-commercial trailers at least) you register the trailer for its GVWR.
That is why Maine trailer registration is cheaper because they are registering trailers for zero pounds and you would have to have your tow vehicle registered for the weight of a tow vehicle plus the weight of the trailer to be legal.
Now are you going to be bothered buy an officer about that if you're non-commercial? Probably not unless you catch one on a bad day and they're looking for something to ticket you for.

Actually we have two classes of trailers; <2000 lbs, and over that weight. In the former there's no problem; in the latter it's as we have both stated. They are making noises about cracking down; like every state, ours wants all of the money they can get. The problem I see is that standard vehicle registration is for 6000 lbs; it's been a while since I had one on the scales, but I believe that a 1/2 ton extended cab 4x4 is about 5300 lbs before passengers get into it.
