My Mahindra 3510 is 35hp and handles an 84" RFM quite well up to about 10th gear (of 12 total). I had to modify it somewhat because it is CAT-II and my tractor and quickhitch is CAT-I.

I don't know the specs of your tractor, but this should give you an HP to RFM size idea.

Also, consider how flat your ground to be mowed. If uneven, it can scalp pretty easily and may overwhelm the antiscalp roller, leaving scrapes in the grass where the roller was- especially when damp.

I have a 90" flail mower on a 48hp tractor. The only downside of increased width is that you will scalp crests and the grass will be longer in troughs because the mower doesn't conform to curves.

I run an 8' mower with my IH 484 with about 45hp at the PTO. Works really well and cuts 5 acres in less than 2 hours. It can bog down occasionally if the grass is a bit long, but going slower helps that. I wouldn't get a bigger finishing mower, but I'd love a 10 or 12' gang mower if I could afford one!

If your land is flat wide is ok, but if hilly like mine I found that my 72" over the 60" I had will do a lot more scalping.

I have a kubota b2910 with 23 hp at the pto. I run a 72" rfm. I have a hilly lot. The hp is suited to the mower and works for me.
