How big is your garden and how many tomato plants?

I really like the 2 ft one I have because it works with a small tractor There is only 25" between the R4 tires on mine and most of the large layers use 3' and 4' plastic.

I have 16"-18" wide strip to plant on after its bedded in...totally enough for single row crop planting. I never see that model advertised online and it wasn't very expensive new either. If I had enough room I would leave 4-5ft between rows to rototill between the plastic and tank spray with the tractor plus be able to tow a harvest cart down between the rows.

I would like to see that one, do you have any pictures?

I am thinking about this one Berry Hill Drip Irrigation :: Agriculture :: Equipment - Mulch Layers, Bean Planter, More :: Plastic Mulch Layers :: Mulch Layers :: Compact Raised Bed Mulch Layer 48. This Machine lays 36", 42" and 48" Plastic Mulch.

Ya so long as you have the wheel width that is a very nice one indeed!

Found the original thread on the mini Holland unit

It's really a pretty simple design. Larger ones usually use disc wheels on the back instead of the flat blades to cover the bedded plastic with soil but this design works just fine. If I was ever to fabricate one similar it would be nice to see it built with square tube like the larger ones use rather than flat bar stock. Don't get me wrong though its plenty strong enough as it is. I've hooked lots of football sized rocks. Over the years one small weld broke and occasionaly I bend the plows points but they can be easily be straightened. Did break off a point once and had to buy a new one but that was it...Did I mention I have rocks :D

DFB, Nice looking unit. Do you not use drip tape under it? If so do you have a attachment to hold the drip tape?

Nope no drip! Last I knew they didn't offer one with it. Be easy enough to add I would think.

WAs in the garden last night running soaker hoses. I noticed that one of the last tomaotes that i transplanted from the containers that i had ignored for a few weeks (kept watering them )was not doing well, looks yellowed and is stunted. Looks similar to one of the wilts, the plant is only about 60% of the height of the other 7 that were just like it and planted the same day.

I am going to dig it up and throw it in the burn pile for fear of what ever it is spreading if it is sick. I did fertilize and thought maybe i burned it when i applied it a few weeks ago, but i dont think so, i just dont think there is a chance i burned it and none of the other 23 plants i had in the ground including 7 other plants the exact same as this one as far as size and transplant age .

Regarding fertilizer, I put a whisker on when I first set them in the ground and then give them a serious blast when the first tomatoes are as big as a quarter. I don't know if this works but an old timer told me that many years ago and it seemed like a good idea.

For peppers, tomatoes and eggplant I usually till in a 5-10-10 or 10-10-10 to start. A 15-15 15 would be fine too. Then after planting and before flowering I like to use a calcium nitrate solution for that extra nitrogen boost and to enhance growth. It turns plants a really dark green plus adds essential calcium. After flowering and while fruit is forming then a blossom booster mixture 10-30-20 or side dress plants with 5-10-10. Works for me :D

What charger/energizer are You using on this fence. Have seen somewhere else that double fence seems to
confuse deer, what is you spacing between fence. What wire are You using appears not single strand. Try to do garden in west-central Georgia next years and solar best option.
Thanks

Wlmarparmer, I sent an email to you in response to your pm. The charger is a 12v battery powered unit labeled as powerful enough for bovine bulls. The spacing between inside and outside fence is 3feet more or less. Too wide or too narrow and deer will jump or go under.

The "wire" is poly cord that some folks use for temporary fence for horses. Poly tape probably works better. Both handle like cord and can be tied together with an overhand knot.

Check youtube for installing electric deer fence. That's where I learned.
