I would not have a tiller much wider than to cover my tire tracks. Unless we talking for agricultural production and the HP is capable, I would just cover the tracks. For gardens, food plots, etc. tilling goes quickly anyway.

He's not considering buying a 72" tiller. I wouldn't recommend that either. But he has the use of one on a plowed garden. I say try it and see if it can handle it one time. With HST, you can crawl as slow as it needs to. Of course, if the 3pt won't lift it, then game over.

I'd go for it..as long as it picks it up,just taken your time and keep her wound up and go.You can't overload the pto system,the engine will bog first,there designed to be run at full power...besides you plowed it already, your not even breaking ground much as you are turning it...

I have a 54" for my 28 hp 1710 and I wish I had a 60". You should be able to handle a 72" in freshly plowed ground - just go slow.
