how big of a tiller can you run on a 2920?

Shock loading or rather preventing it is the job of the slip clutch. I don't know of any tiller that doesn't have one. As for power, I don't find that they take a lot of power to turn the tines. I think the only limitation to a reasonable size would be the weight. If you look in your owners manual they should state the maximum weight of a 3 PH implement. This it not the lift capacity but rather the weight that the tractor can safely handle. I know that my Kubota B26 could not handle the weight of a 72" tiller (I think 48 or 50" was stated as max) so I decided that I would put one on my 70HP tractor instead.

I owned a 2920 for a little more than 1000hrs and sold it last year. When I was shopping I ended up with a 60" tiller to run behind it. I was worried that I bought to large but then it occurred to me that if it bogged down the rig I could take a couple sets of tines off and turn it into a 50ish if needed. Ended up being a non issue though.

I run a 5 ' tiller and a 5' bushog on a tractor with about 20 pto hp with no problems but the tractor is large enough to handle the weight. I also run a 6 ' finish mower, it's a bit much for it if I have it set real low in tall damp grass but for the most part it's fine. I think on a hydrostat transmission it's ok to push the size a bit if u can handle the weight. U can always slow up some or take a smaller bite.

FWIW, my Kubota owner's manual says 50", 470 lbs for a tiller on a B2920, or B2620. (Now I'm sure someone will jump in to explain that real life experience is more important than some stinking manual from the engineers that designed the tractor, and that they have been running an 84" tiller on their B2320 with no problem. Happens every time I offer the manual info.)

Looked at my manual last night also, and it says 50" tiller for the B2650. I wouldn't want anything less than the 58", it barely covers the tire tracks and I'm not a fan of offset tilling.

I bought a 72" Taylor Pittsburgh tiller for my L3940 and tried it on my 26hp Cub Cadet 7260 (turfs, weighs 2600 lbs. no FEL). It works sweet even on the smaller tractor.

It worked better actually on the smaller tractor until I turboed the 3940. The small tractor is gear so that helps.

I'd go with the biggest your tractor will run so it covers your rear tracks.

Rotary tillers and rotary cutters both like five (5) PTO horsepower per foot of width. The shock load of a too large cutter or tiller on the PTO drive system could have one asking a dealer why the costly repair he is talked about is not covered by warranty.

Considering different size tractors can have the same HP and same size tractors can different HP, this rule-of-thumb seems VERY loose.

I have a 72 in county line on my L3400, I have the HST, I just run it slow.
