I have had some trouble in the past when I run my brush hog. I have a b7800 & a 5' king kutter. Can someone guide me through the process I should use to adjust the height of my brush hog? I have played around with the top link - which I have learned through searching archives here - was a mistake, and tried with the adjustable link & tailing rear tire. I just can't seem to get it right - always digging in the ground or too high. I saw a neat link for adding check chains, which I would eventually like to do, but I don't have a welder... Any & all help would be appreciated.

Well you find you a flat piece of ground or concrete then set the bh down and adjust the trailing wheel to whatever height you want then you just use your 3pt for the ft. height, if you 3pt goes to leaking down then you will just have to watch it to keep it at the level you want, or you can try shutting off the rate of decent valve under the seat.

I set the tail wheel height to the level I want to mow with the mower a little lower in the front than the back. Then, you can adjust mow height as you go with the 3 pt hitch.

Start with the 3PH arms all the way down.

On a flat surface, crank the leveler until the front of the deck is level side to side.

Leave at least a couple of inches of slack in the top link at all times.

Adjust the front brackets and rear wheel bracket to get the preferred cutting height

Make sure the front of the deck is about an inch lower than the rear of the deck.

Due to the tremendous leverage and strain it places on the 3PH, avoid carrying the cutter very far in the raised position.

With many of my tractors we sell what is called check chains. Years ago all the finish mowers only ran the two rear wheels on the back and nothing other then a roller in the front. With the check chains it only allows the front to drop to where the chains are adjusted giving the consistancy that is needed in controling the front height.
