how do I disable seat switch on Farmall 45A

When I first got my JD, I thought about disabling the seat switch. It would kill the engine when I twisted around to look behind me. However, I found that after I got used to the tractor the problem went away. Now the only time it happens is when I forget to put it in neutral or bump the shifter into gear when I'm getting off. In other words it actually works the way it's supposed to. I don't have any real concerns with people who want to disable the switch but I would suggest waiting a while on a new tractor before disabling the safety systems.

I used to hate it on my former Kubota. Every time I got up off of the seat to see the tips of my forks better going into a pallet, the engine would shut off. Every time I leaned over to see the edge of the bucket better, the engine shut off. I thought about disabling it but never did.

Same thing on my L45, if I try to see the fork tips, I kill the engine. With my grapple in the woods, I forget and stand up to make sure I am not running a stick into my radiator (did that last year, $4K to fix) and kill the engine. I have not disabled anything yet.

My 31 year old John Deere never had a seat safety switch, never have had a situation occur where I wished I it did, and all my tractor work is on a hillside vineyard. My LS had a seat safety switch for the first 24 hours. hard to calibrate the airblast sprayer without the tractor pto running. Now if only I could figure out how to defeat the pto brake so I could hook up implements easier. Too much cya safety stuff makes the job safer, but more difficult.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, until you get to 17 ounces of prevention.

Well-put.

I bought a CT230 new, like you have, back in 2010. With the nice Bobcat suspension seat adjusted for my
weight (<150#), the engine would always die when I pushed hard on the brake. I use my parking
brake all the time here, as nothing is level. I HAD to disable the seat switch to fix that, within an
hour of delivery.

My 10yo Kioti CK30 has no seat switch at all, and its only safety switch is on the clutch. IMO,
a safety switch on an HST that forces you to be in neutral to start is more dangerous than none
at all. (HST IS a safety device, after all.)

It is amazing that some folks will even operate a chainsaw without a brake, or a car without ABS
or airbags.....;)

Curious what folks do to operate backhoes with a seat switch, clutch switch etc. If everything turns off when you get off the seat, how do you start up again when facing backwards. Pretty hard to depress the clutch when facing backward. Or maybe the safety police haven't got around to backhoes yet.

Can't speak for all TLBs, but the L45 seat cutout works when you are moving or when the PTO is engaged (at least that is all I have discovered). It took a little reading (owners manual) to figure out how to operate the PTO while not sitting in the seat, like when using the chipper (you turn the seat around like you are using the backhoe).
