Not sure it matters, but are the flowers small, or the plants? Could be iron weed.

Just came from TSC, it isnt on the shelf, but it is in the Blue Book, with a notice that buyers must have a current applicators license. Looks like I wont be able to use that.

Anything else?

Have you got a local farmer's co-op? They're usually a lot less particular about selling heavy-duty herbicides!

I'll try the co-op tomorrow, maybe I can get it from them.

Here are some pics of the weeds, most of the weeds are a little brown from when I put the Pasture Pro down a couple of weeks ago. All except for the main thing I'm trying to kill.

I know this sounds kind of CS since the weeds are your misfortune, but I'm actually a little happy, and amazed, to find someone has a weed that I DON'T have!

It looks a lot like spotted knapweed.

Check out Species List

It's the Dow Chemical web site. They make Grazon P+D but their recommendation is to use Tordon 22K (1 to 1-1/2 pts per acre) or Redeem (2-1/2 to 3 pts per acre). I doubt that you will be able to get Grazon without a licence and I can't remember if one is needed for Redeem or Tordon. I haven't used either so I don't know how effective they are but usually Dow's chemicals are pretty good, expensive but good.

It looks as if you will be fighting this weed for a while so it might be benificial to get your private applicators licence. It gives you access to all kinds of good stuff. Good luck, it's a never ending fight.

My horse fields are being over run with a farily small purple flowered weed. I put Pasture Pro down on one field about 3 weeks ago, but they're still there, so they are probably not a broadleaf weed. Here in N Va, they are all over the roadbanks. I cannot determine the exact name of this weed (I have searched and searched and searched). Those of you in Northern Virgina will probably know the weed I'm talking about. Any suggestions on what to put on my horse fields to get rid of this stuff would be helpful.

If you weren't able to identify it, go to the Virginia Tech Weed Identification website:

Virginia Tech Weed Identification Guide

The other thing would be to take a sample into either Rankins Hardware or the Warrenton Co-op. Besides identifying it, they'll quickly fix you up with the proper herbicide.
