The only 3pt implement I used before was a cat0 grader on an old Wheel Horse. It wasn't too hard to mount it, since I could move it around pretty easily. But now I'm mounting a box blade that's a bit hard to move with my hands, and I know that there must be a method of mounting 3pt implements, especially since some weigh 500+ pounds I'm sure.

I'm just trying to back in with the 3pt arms over the pins and then spread them out enough to get over the pins. Is there anything more to it than that?

Thanks

I agree with the milkman, I know when I mounted my bush hog the first time I thought I was going to have to get help to attach it. I bought Pat's and it makes it very easy to change implements. Best money you'll ever spend!!!!

I actually found the trick. It was to bring my 2 year old daughter out to "help" and explain each step that I was taking and why. This caused me to slow, deliberate, methodical, and patient. We got it on in next to no time. :D

I'll keep the quick change things in mind after I gauge how much I'll be using the 3pt hitch. Thanks y'all.

i keep my BB on a couple of castors makes it easy to move into position, the rfm is on wheeles so that is no problem.

That must be great. Just the thought of my impliments inside on a concrete floor out of the weather and sliding on casters makes me a little happy inside.

Mine live outside in the weather and weeds. I have found that a 6ft railroad bar makes the fine adjustments when hooking up a little easier.

My first two tractors were manual steer, good upper body workout but hooking up to impliments was a huge chore. I found a nudge with the bar was equal to going forward and back 3 times. A three pound hammer is good for making fine adjustments.

Dollies, dollies, dollies.......and pavement. Ever see those Navy boys load up all those 2000 lb. bombs and missiles on a Tomcat or Hornet? They lock in place in seconds, like Legos. And they roll them into place on dollies.

I think that instead of getting dollies, I'll have to get another tractor. :D I'll get one that is dedicated to 3pt work and then I can leave my backhoe on and use that to suspend the implements above the ground.

Here are some pictures for the heck of it. Looking forward to trying out the blade tomorrow.

I'm planning on getting Pat's Easy change system as well - actually saw it at TSC the other day, but wanted to read more about it here.

I don't mind wrestling my rear blade in place, but I hate adjusting the 'chains" on the BX24. That threaded rod is a pain - need a ratchet type wrench with an open face, or something. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or just impatient. Pat's system would make unhooking the implement possible without adjusting the chains, and I'm hoping I could remove the 3pt hitch without loosening them as well (to switch to BH).

I, starting to mow more with my BX (just because I like the seat time more than on my lawn tractor) - dropping the FEL and BH is quick - but the RB is too much work.

Sorry, no help here, just liked you're thread topic - I did some research looking for a 3pt Hitch "How-To" (like "For Dummies" type) when I got my RB - but didn't find much and thought it was just me with that question....

3PT implements can be a pain to get on and off. You will get better at it.

Also, I 'm not trying to be a wiseguy but you might want to keep the little one away from the boxblade when it is suspended like that. You never know if that could drop unexpectedly from hydraulic or mechanical failure.

Oddly, that's the best advice for this. Expect it to be challenging and just work at it. If there's a trick to something, great. Knowing that there isn't one is just as good.

Certainly not a wiseguy with that comment. When I saw her near the blade with the hitch up, I did run over to remove her, but I couldn't help myself from taking one quick picture first.

Hey Ray,
Yup, you'll get use to it. I'm constantly changing by BB and rear blade out, considered Pat's quick change, but figured I had better use for the $$. The biggest "trick" I've learned myself is to make sure you drop the implement on a level spot if you can. I don't have a paved or concrete area to put my BB and blade, but I leveled a spot and keep them on pallets. Just the fact that they're level when going off and on makes a huge difference in the scraped knuckle dept.

Love it.

I mounted my BoxBlade ONCE without a dollie. Then I bought a dollie.

I have 5 mover's dollies and a dozen little 3-wheel dollies that are always in my garage.

BH: Dismount onto 2 mover's dollies, one HD unit under frame, one regular unit under bucket.
FEL: One HD unit under bucket, 2 3-wheel deals under the little stands.
MMM: One 3-wheel dollie under each anti-scalp wheel.
BoxBlade: One mover's dollie.
Bagger: 4 3-wheel dollies tied together in 2 pair by some lathe (they just don't like staying under the bagger stand on their own).

For me it's easier to roll a tractor than a 400# BB with none. I just get the tractor centered then move the tractr by hand if needed. Once I get one side connected it's easy. I can move the tractor (pull/push on the rear tire) with one connected and the weight of the tractor will bump the implement into place. Then attact the top link last. The disk is the hardest because it wants to stick to the ground more. But if I can get one link on it I can pick it up slightly to move it around if needed. The FM is actually harder than you think (it's on it's own 4 wheels!!), the wheels always want to point in the wrong direction..

Good Luck,
Rob

My implements sit on a level slab beside the barn, but the ground next to it isn't level. I stick a piece of scrap 2X4 under the high side of the box blade when I'm setting it down for removal. That way, when I back up to it the next time, the tractor and the blade are at the same angle. Do the same with the bushhog. I also keep a handle from a post hole digger, (the manual kind), to pry and push with. I can usually get them all off and on in just a minute or two.
