How Do I Repair A Broken Granite Post

It is looking more and more like a spring project now as we won’t have any 24 hour period above freezing. I wont bring it inside because it’s just too much handling. I do think I will try a repair though. The mating surfaces will match even though they are not flat.
I think that because all the forces are vertical, it just may stay in place with a rod and epoxy. The sign is actually 18 inches square, , 3/8 inch aluminum with vinyl sign material on it. The bracket is steel, 24 inches long, and the sign and bracket weighs about 10 pounds.
I could have a wrought iron band fabricated, maybe 6 inches wide to cover the splice but it will have a bolt in the back to cinch it. I will consult with some stone people to see about the epoxies. I do know the PL products, I’ll check them out.

Slash, the height is critical. I have a 3 foot hole dig, and the bracket is 6 inches below the top of the post so I need the height. I will figure something out. Even if I have to build the post of wood, I can still use the granite pieces somewhere around the landscape.

I repaired an eight by eight concrete post just using a mortar mix with extra Portland. That was about ten years ago.

This may be a duplicate post. Just got off the phone with Granite City Tool in Barre, Vermont. The gentleman said to use GCT Epoxy, a material used to build and repair mausoleums. Temperatures need to be “warm” though, which it is not here in Maine until April or so.
