Some of the tree limb cutters use what looks like large saw blades.

Our current blade is made out of some hard, 1/2" x 3" steel.

We do have a 29-1/2" steel saw blade (Probably came out of some old time saw mill) which we currently have on a stump saw we are trying to build. We have been wondering how it might work. I suppose the teeth are about 1" to 1-1/2" spacing and the weight would probably heavier. What would you think?

Another question. Our present gear motor has check valves so it can be reversible. Since we rerouted the return line, we gave up the reverse option. Might it be possible to remove one check valve to make a case drain?

This should work. You'll have to plug the internal passage that connects to the large return port though. Maybe tap it and jam a setscrew in the threads. The case drain will have to be a seperate low pressure line to the tank.
