How do I tell which model?

Soundguy, I've noticed you seem to be one of the resident experts. I'm sure I'm showing my ignorance, but was the a problem with the I-beam radius rods? I plan to keep the old girl for a long time, so I'd like to repair/rebuild anything likely to break on me. I only have a 2.5 acre lot, mostly wooded, so the 9N is a big toy, but I'd rather not roll down a hill sideways!

no they are fine.. easier to fix when damaged too, imho.

I merely commented on them as there are plenty of year to year changes on the 9n/2n, and you can use those to date a tractor even if it doesn't have a viable engine serial number.. the ibeams are correct for your model.. etc.

Cool, thanks! My plans are to use this tractor, not restore it, but when it doesn't have a negative effect on operation, I'd like to keep it original. Am I correct in believing she should be all dark gray?

Rumor has it, with war looming in Europe, Henry Ford could get a great deal on train car loads of battleship gray/gloss paint. I just throw that one out. I used rustoleum gray on mine. Color blind guy said it was perfect.

That sounds about right, Henry was a well known skinflint!

My brake parts came in today, so I pulled Ol' Rusty in the garage to start the job. Slid my 3-ton jackstands under the axles, then realized that they were three inches short of hitting the axles BEFORE I jacked the tractor up! Now I'm waiting on my new 12-ton stands to come in.

yep.. went to use my 5 ton jack stands on my 950 rowcrop then realized due to the high ground clearance.. they came real close too!

The 12-tons I just ordered are supposed to go to 30 inches, so I think I'm good to go on a 9N, dont know about that 950, it looks a lot taller!
