How do you get a price adjustment

I took delivery on a set of pallet forks last week. When we took them off the truck, I thought I noticed something on the rack that wasn't painted. My mind turned to unloading the forks and before I signed the paperwork I looked over the forks and didn't notice the unpainted surface again. Today when I removed the forks from the pallet, it turned back up. It was a patch welded on the side of the rack where it had apparently broke off and was patched back on. The patch looks like it will hold but, since I paid for new and undamaged forks I feel that the company should have at least discounted the price.

What I'm trying to find out is, when something is delivered on a semi and I find it to be not as represented but useable, what should I do, refuse to accept it and send it back, call the company and ask for a price adjustment then, if I don't get it refuse shipment. Is there another option? Items like this as well as shipping have already been charged to my credit card and I don't want to be stuck with the shipping fee.

I'm sorry for taking up everybody's time. I found the answer at the companie's web site. I had 24 hours to call the company and avoid having to pay for shipping. I'll know to look at the policies section first next time.

IMO, if there is something actually defective with the forks, you do not want them as delivered. If you are just looking for a price adjustment, then you don't think they are defective.

Forks are not something which are going to be entered in a beauty contest. After a few months, cosmetics won't be an issue, especially one that you can't normally see without looking for it.
