Struggling with MX5400 purchase — could get MX6000 for same price. What would you do?

I could probably make use of a stump grinder too, but I don’t have one. The big question is the things that I don’t know that I might want to do in the future starting a blueberry farm. I don’t see myself bailing hay that to me is about the only thing where I would need the MX 6000 or rear PTO horsepower over 45 or 46. Having not had a lot of experience that’s just me guessing from some Internet research I would definitely welcome any thoughts you all have from your known implement use.

I've never used a 3-point stump grinder, but having seen a few big Vermeer stump grinders operate, I'm sure I wouldn't want to attach something like that to my tractor. Seems like a quick way to break something and otherwise rattle the whole thing to pieces. Just my first impression.

As to baling hay -- if you're thinking about it, it depends on what kind of mower and baler you're thinking about using. Either tractor would handle a small mower and small square baler. Neither would handle a discbine or a round baler.

I would say that is exactly it, the MX 5400 will cover everything that I do today. I currently only have a 5 foot bush hog. That is the only thing today that I use my PTO for I certainly will look to upgrade to a larger bush hog having a tractor that can support it, but I’m not cutting large acreage. At most it’s 10 acres of field. I could probably make use of a stump grinder too, but I don’t have one. Ok
So you have a larger cutter deck, post hole auger, rototiller, 2 bottom plow, cultipacker, disc harrow, mulch layer, wood chipper, wood splitter, 8’ rear scraper blade, 6’ box blade, 7’ land plane, 8’ york rake, grapple and stump bucket all covered with the 5400.
It is a completely capable tractor and more than likely, all you’ll ever need.

Presumably the 5400 should use slightly less fuel under the same load as the 6000?

Depends on where the power band is with the differentiated timing on the 6000.
Usually hp is measured at the higher rpm’s where torque comes in much before that. The two tractors may have identical torque output at a measured rpm. If a computer on the 6000 is allowing higher rpm, there is where the extra hp is measured.
I don’t know enough about Kubotas to say exactly.

The MX5400 is a sweet machine and will no doubt handle your needs. My comment was that if you could buy a 6000 for the same price, it’s a no brainer.

Calculate how much time to mow 10 acres at about 4 mph with a 5 foot deck versus 8 foot or 10 foot. Multiply by the number of cuts per year for the next 10-15 years. Then decide how you want to spend your time and money.

Check out any future blueberry specific equipment you may need to power also, like pull harvesters, hedge/trimmer, etc. That could make a difference in which tractor makes more sense too, depending on how big of a blueberry farm you are talking.

Good thoughts.
The 5400 will handle a sickle type cutter with no problem.
As far as a harvester ( if his farm gets that big) tow behind harvesters need only about a 30 hp tractor.

How about draft control? I’ve never had it but on my current tractor I’d often have the single bottom plow dig real deep and stall the tractor at points

You’re talking of a different animal with the 5400.
Almost double the hp and double the weight with loaded tires and fel. Should pull a 12” bottom w no problem. In today’s world, I think I’d just get a 4’ rototiller if you’re planting double row bushes.
I know our 45hp and up Mahindras have draft control as standard.
I think you have the option as an add on and could do this at any time.
