Oil & Fuel How do you get diesel scent out of clothes ?

I wasn't paying close enough attention at the diesel pump the other day and splashed diesel down my jeans leg. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif No problem I threw my work clothed in the washer with tide and hot water. But three washes later they all smell of diesel. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif What's the trick? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ahhhhh! I love the smell of diesel in the morning! Why would you *want* to get that out of your clothes?

Throw away the diesel-soiled clothes and buy new replacements.

And never wash them in the home washing machine. Use a laundromat. It will keep She Who Must Be Obeyed happy.

soak them in dish washing detergent..... the type that you hand wash dishes with.... it will break down the oil and the smell will be gone. Also use it when you think you might have been into poison ivy.... wash both your clothes and yourself with it..... washes away the oils that cause poison ivy. When you wash the clothes in the washing machine, use cold water and detergent so it will break down the sudsing agents in the dish washing liquid. Personally I like the lemon scent to diesel.

Woolite works well on gear oil and gas, I'm guessing it would work with diesel

When I was in college 25 years ago, I used to fuel jets (which is essentially the same kind of fuel - kerosine). Anyway, I used to smell to high heaven of jet fuel after working all day. Well, after work one night a few of us stopped for a beer or two, and wouldn't you know that the smell actually worked to my advantage!....
