As my wife put it many years ago...... just one more example of my sick humor!!!! I have lots of good jokes, but the site says "no jokes", so I don't want to get into trouble with the powers to be. Possibly someday they will add a joke corner... Junkman

Here's what I do. I buy that orange stuff hand cleaner without the pumice. I 'pre-treat' the heavy areas, and then throw the clothes in a 5 gallon bucket I keep in the barn... I use this bucket just for 'farm laundry'. I then add water and simple green degreaser. I slosh it around with a broom handle.. let it set for a few hourse.. remove, and hang onthe fence, and spray rinse, and let dry.

I learned early on that I wasn't sopposed to wash greasy stuff in the house....how did I learn this you ask?

Lets just say, the wife came home one day and i had the front grill to my 8n in the sink scrubbing it down prior to painting it one day.... not a pretty site....

Junkman:

This is beyond a doubt, the most humorous thread I have ever read.

One not of caution to anyone washing their clothes in any solvent--Don't put them in the dryer to dry them, you won't be around to make any more posts /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If I have to wash stuff in a bucket I use a toilet plunger. It works great for red grease rags when you're washing them with mineral spirits. The really soft red ones might not like the solvent but I have a black semi- plastic one that didn't work in a toilet worth a darn, works good in a bucket, though.

BGott:

What do you do after you wash your grease rags in solvent?

I usually take mine to the laundromat, late at night, wash them in tri-sodium phosphate and a couple of times in detergent and then sneak out. Who ever uses the washer the next day is in for a surprise!!

When I get them home, I line dry them.

If you'll look around antique stores you can sometimes find an old laundry plunger. It looks similar to a large toilet plunger but mine is metal, and when you plunge it into the laundry in your #10 washtub it expels water from holes that go up through it to the top of the plunger part. works quite well - and helps put your arms & shoulders in shape too! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I inherited mine from my dad who got it from his mother when they bought a brand new electric wringer washer. He always used it in the basement to wash his work clothes and rags 'cause mom wasn't about to let him use our new automatic washer. One thing about it - seems it wears out the users rather than the other way 'round. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Actually, I line dry them and wash them in my own washing machine. Right before my roommate uses it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'll tell him that he ought to let me wash my clothes first because I just did rags and he'll do 'em anyway. So far it hasn't screwed his clothes up. It's just about time for another load, I have dirty rags flung everywhere.

I have a tenant/ helper that i need to get one of those. Just to see the look on her face when I tell her what it's for. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
