Have fun, wish I could make it, but a little far...

I know how much work it is to put on, I've been hosting a labor day potluck picnic at my house for about 12 yrs now, for our church and friends. I have had anywhere from 30 - 100+ people show up.

I've never done anything like this before. Any suggestions/advice for a newbee?

Get as much preparation done as possible ahead of time. You will find that on the day of the cookout, time will pass ultra-fast and things will take much longer than you expected. I'm always amazed and how things I think I can do quickly seem to take so much time when I'm meeting and greeting guests and trying to be a host and a worker-bee at the same time. So the more you plan and get ready ahead of time, the smoother things will go. Organize your cookout area like a good kitchen so you don't have to move far to get to everything. Also, don't be afraid to ask your guests to help set up something. You don't have to do everything yourself. People are normally very eager to help.

Jinman is right though-- pull the cooking show stunts...
Get stuff ready.. Move anything you can over to the site and then just put it out from behind the curtain when needed... :)

Jerome ..You forgot to mention he will need a hat check girl, parking valet, security guards and traffic control....:laughing::laughing::laughing::thumbsup:

Thanks Jim. Weather's supose to be right around 80 and sunny.

I'll get everything setup a few days ahead. That's a great idea I didn't think of. We're doing the last of the cleanup/mowing this weekend.

We have 5 refrigerators at the farm plus my chest freezer. I probably should move the steaks to the fridge on Thursday. Already have 50 ears of corn in them. Got 67 ears for $15 last weekend at the res during our trip. Been eating some the last few days, man are they good and tender.

Ice, plates, silverware, butter, salt, drinks. I better start making a list.:laughing:
