I have my compressor on a wood frame, it absorbs the vibration and I have it secured to the wall with nylon strapping, I live in an earthquake zone.
I did not and will not bolt it to the floor, I may want to move it.

Ours is wall mounted, bolted through the wall with metal plate on the outside,
The feet are mounted on squares of thick rubber.

Mine sits on small squares of stall mat material about 3/4" thick. I'll bet it hasn't moved 1/4" in the 5 years it has stood there.

Mine is still on the pallet. When I bought it directly from the manufacturer here that is a pretty decent sized operation I asked them about it. The guy said, just leave it on the pallet if you want to - most folks do. That was the technical service guy that handled me buying it and answered my questions. They were even nice enough to make a "lay down skid" for it. The guy said to bring 2 8' 2x4's and they would make a basic skid so it could sit on it's back for much better stability in the PU bed. Now that's service (no charge)! He said to just let it sit vertical for a couple hours before starting it up so the oil drained back down. Easy enough as I had to wire it in anyways. Great guys to work with

I bolted my 60 gal IR to a 3x3 piece of 3/4" plywood.

i couldn't justify removing something that was already supplied with the compressor (pallet) in order to expend effort to replace it with something that would do the same job.

Well said, although I did just that.

I've got a 80 gallon IR compressor that I still have sitting on teh original shipping pallet. I've thought about adding casters to it so at least I can move it aroudn the shop to clean behind and underneath, but it would appear that it might be a bit too top heavy without the outriggers like the shipping pallet provides.
Other than securing directly to the floor, anyone ever done something like this?

Thanks

So what did you end up doing? I read all the posts and none of them answered your original question. It became a this is what I did post. I was thinking of doing the same thing, putting 4" casters on mine since it is stuffed in a closet and I'd need to move it if I ever had to change the belt. I've read other threads on the caster ideas and everyone talks about it walking. Did you have this problem with the compressor on casters?

You might try casters that have brakes on them.--I too have an 80 gal. IR and yes the original pallet is still under it. --Can't lay anything on the pallet, because it vibrates off!---I was going to mount mine on a steel sled, but never got around to it. thanks; sonny580

I have 2 80gal vertical T30 compressors, I wouldn't want to leave them unsecured, especially on casters, too top heavy and a small base.

Even my 60gal IR compressor is anchored to the floor with rubber/wood isolation dampers. I've seen a lot of compressors left on the pallets and I'm sure it works and is more stable then just setting them on the floor, but also take up more space.

True, but this thread is still useful to those of us who bought used compressors where the orginal pallet is long gone.

I plan to use left over 3/4" rubber horse mat material. From reading this thread, it appears to work well.
