How do you plant trees????

The main advantage of planting in fall, more so in the winter, is that there is less stress on the tree, and you also have to water less.

Keep them watered good thru the first summer and fall and yours should be fine.

I have heard this also, but around here, it is almost impossible to purchase a tree in the fall and in the spring, you can buy them almost every place you look. One of the trees that I purchased was dug a couple of years ago and has been balled in burlap and mulched over the past 2 years in a field. The local nursery has a lot of trees just like this that are left over from one season to another..

LOL

A long time ago and shortly after my Dad had passed away I took a walk down the road with my Mom. On the way back we spotted an oak sapling about 30" tall in the weeds along the side of the road. Not having any tools with me I just tugged it out of the ground. Planted it in the yard when we got back to the farm. That oak is now better than a foot thick, 30-35 feet tall and doing fine, even after I whacked it plenty of times with the edge of the mower deck when I was younger.

Now that we're selling the place I sure wish I could bring it to my farm but I don't think I'll be transplanting that one again!

Sorry, I thought you were transplanting trees -- so the only thing I would have done different would have been with the depth of the hole. It looks as though the site you referenced agrees with that as well. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You should have good luck with them as long as you water them well for the first 10 days.
