How do you sharpen you blades?

/ How do you sharpen you blades? #31
Well, Ferrari... As it all bottoms out, this was no help to me at all (not that being such is your obligation).

The original post and caption was about sharpening mower blades. No where did it way anything about MMM blades on that post. I don't have a MMM. I doubt I ever will. I'd thought this was going to be about sharpening mower blades, not about ways to access and remove MMM mower blades. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As far as sharpening goes, well, my method is effective but not exactly OSHA friendly!! I have an 8" bench grinder and have removed the safety shroud from the fine grinding wheel side allowing ease of movement and accurate alignment of the cutting edge with the wheel. Gloves and safety glasses are a must as the blade does get hot and I really like to eye up the blade closely to make sure it stays flush with the wheel. The whole process for my 54"MMM takes about 30min.

I finally got some pictures posted...I realize everone knows what sharpened blades look like, and you can not tell how sharp or dull blades are in a picture......in this first and second picture here, I am trying to show the lip or flange that protrudes out from the blade on the original Kubota blade (bottom blade) on the cutting surface compared to the top blade which was sold to me as an exact replacement ....but I don't think it is a Kubota blade...you can see the difference, but you can not tell in pictures the much heavier guage of steel the Bottom (Kubota blade that came new on deck)

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v248/GARYTUCKER/DSC00293.jpg

It is hard as the devil to hold one of these heavy things up at arm's length to take a picture of....but these next pictures show side angle of slope on blades....this is what took me so long to work down on new blades......on subsequent sharpenings it will not take so long as the first time I sharpen new blades to get the slope way down for sharpness.

Later today when I put them back on mower....I will get pictures of crossed blades and post them.....
I am looking for some REAL KUBOTA BLADES like the ones that came on my MMM just 2 weeks ago...I just don't believe dealer when he says they have changed blade suppliers! I want 3 or 4 more sets EXACTLY like the ones that came on mower....Anyone know where I can get some?

Just put blades back on deck....here are some pictrues.....So anyone who does not have a MMM please do not waste your time looking at these....man! it sure is harder to put these heavy suckers on than on my 60" MMM on my B-8200...I have to lie on my back, with boths arms extended and hold these heavy suckers up at arm's length. all while wedged up under deck, while tractor is on ramps.......

It is only 89Degrees outside with a heat index of 95 !!!!

Cut grass today at 8 and 1/2 inches...in transport mode for MMM DECK......I am in a drought and have not cut in quite a while to keep from stressing grass and burning it up.....If it doesn't rain soon I am going to loose it all.....I can tell day by day that grass is on the decline due to dryness. Grass that I cut was at least twice as high as level I cut at...this is not good to cut off more than 1/3 of blade length at one time......but in a drought I avoid cutting because the hot sun will burn it up....it was 89 here today with a heat index of 96...

You can tell in these next pictures that even cut a this high level, the sun is taking its toll on grass....look at the brown color of grass....

The grass is much thinner under pine trees due to too much shade....

<font color="blue"> "I am in a drought and have not cut in quite a while to keep from stressing grass and burning it up.....If it doesn't rain soon I am going to (lose) it all....." </font>

And I have to wait two days after a rain for the ground to dry enough for me to get my tractor out on it. No rain all day Friday and I still had standing water early this afternoon. I've got friends and neighbors who have either lost acreage to the water already or haven't been able to plant for the same reason... or both.

Most likely, if you can connect through your ISP to TBN and not to those pics, it's a problem on the server where Ferrari's pics are stored. I've had some of the websites that I've built not display ANY of the pics on the site, just the print, and then later half of the pics will show with the print, and then all of them show with the print. Never have figured out why. John /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
