How do you store a chainsaw so it will not leak bar oil.

Ive always heard its from pressure build up in the tank after running it. It heats up oil and causes pressure. Open cap to relieve pressure, put cap back on. I've never tried it though. Post if this works. I'll try it next time I use my saw if I remember. LOL

That's exactly what it is. There is nothing to prevent a leak in most cases, so if you can eliminate pressure buildup by cracking the cap open, that can only help. I suppose the cap should be left loose to deal with long term temperature changes, but probably the better solution is to burp it every couple weeks if you think about it.

Here I thought it was just my chainsaw...feel better now that I know I am not alone

I just consider the leak a wood preservative on the plywood floor of my shed. I need to store the saw in a different spot each time, though.

As far as the remington, I'm pretty sure that's a design "feature" because the directions tell you to drain the tank before storing to prevent spills.

It's funny. I bought the Remington to cut some 6x6's, and it worked great. Had to cut through oak 8x8 beams and 2x8 floor joists in my barn and my Stihl kept bogging down. The stupid Remington went right through it!

It did loose ALL of its bar oil quickly the last time it sat... wish I would have read those directions. I figured it was a throw-away but I actually really like it, and I don't need hearing protection to use it in the barn :)

I get a pack of these "Pig" blankets and put them on the shelves where I store my saws and even put them in the bottom of the carrying cases for the saws that have them. I don't have to change them out very often and they do a good job in other areas too. This link is to them at an autozone, but they are available lots of places. I think this is for 15 of them for 12 dollars.

Chainsaws are like old chevy smallblocks....the only reason they stop leaking is because they've run out of oil :)

I always crack the caps on fuel and oil tanks to relieve pressure whenever I use one of my saws. If I won't be using it in the foreseeable future, I'll drain the gas & oil back into their containers through a fine paint filter. Even after all that, I will store the saw on an old cookie sheet to contain whatever oil it may still drip out of it.

I must have bought a lemon. I have a RedMaxx saw, and it doesn't leak bar oil.

I have a lot of saws, but only a few leak. Must have something to do with the oil pump type? Just a guess.

It is just natural gravity seepage through the chain oil weep hole by the drive sprocket. Turn the saw on it's side with the bar up. Easier said than done if you are in a big hard case. The Deere/Eska's leak too.
