How do you store a chainsaw so it will not leak bar oil.

Here I thought it was just my chainsaw...feel better now that I know I am not alone

Me too! I'm going to try the cap thing, as well as the chain brake.

I dont see how the chain brake could do anything.

I can't imagine how it would work either. For most saws, it is just a band brake that wraps about the centrifugal clutch.

If your chainsaw stops leaking oil while in storage (and there's oil in the tank), you may have a problem. Usually it is sawdust that gets plugged into the orifice and channel when you take the bar on and off. Clean it out well or your bar and chain will wear.

It's funny. I bought the Remington to cut some 6x6's, and it worked great. Had to cut through oak 8x8 beams and 2x8 floor joists in my barn and my Stihl kept bogging down. The stupid Remington went right through it!

It did loose ALL of its bar oil quickly the last time it sat... wish I would have read those directions. I figured it was a throw-away but I actually really like it, and I don't need hearing protection to use it in the barn :)

Even the cheap one is very hard to stop because of serial motor has highest torque at zero rpm. If you read instruction for chaps it will say that it will not protect you when using electric chainsaw.

I find that fear works pretty good:

I have an old homelite that was my grandfathers and it never leaks a drop. If I don't want the Stihl saws we have to leak oil I have to empty the tank.

I'm a couple days late on this thread but throwing my 2 cents in. I hate to have to empty the oil after every use so i just hang mine up by the hole thats in the bar and so far that works. Both my homelite and my electric saw leaks all the oil out over time if left in a sitting position. By the way I agree with the high torque of the electric saw it'll out cut my homelite (which i know isn't saying a lot). :)
