I got 2 of these hooks from Baileys and LOVE them! Use them ALL the time. Way way better than a choker ring I was using before!

I have those as well. Much nicer than a typical slip hook.

I use a Folgers plastic container, but I suppose any brand will do. I usually have a 12 ft but it will store two twelve footers. P05-16-14_10.48[1].jpgP05-16-14_10.48.jpg

I don't have any logging chain because I don't have any trees but I will say the empty Fogers coffee containers are the handiest thing for storing bulky and awkward items (like the chains) but also big bolts or whatever. I've got a dozen of them and all are filled with something different. If you don't have one or never saw one, take a look.

I have been wanting a chain storage setup on my tractor since I bought it little over a year ago. I've been working on a custom setup for the last 2 nights. Painted it tonight and will mount up tomorrow. I'll post some pics, but basically I made a mount to hold two 4"x24" PVC pipes between the left rear tire and fender. I've got 3" wheel spacers and my wheels set all the way out so there's plenty room and it's just dead space. Also, I wanted to keep the weight as clost to center and low as I could.

The RH side of my tractor has the FEL valve, mount and a Prince Hyd valve, hoses and rear remotes I installed, so there's about an extra 150# if guess on that side up high. I'd like to balance that out a bit with the chain storage (I mow slopes).

Anyway, I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Alright, finally got the pics up. Here they are.

I bought a stick of 2"x1/8"x4' angle and two sticks of 1"x1/8"x3' flat at Lowes. The rest of the metal I used was just scraps I had laying around. I didn't want to put too much $$$ into it in case it didn't work out.

I put small eye bolts in the caps to attach them to the tubes with string so I don't loose them or run over one up in the woods. The bottom end of the tubes have a 4" plastic snap-in drain grate, also from Lowes and about $2 each.

All mounted up.

I've been on the tractor all day the last two days bushogging and the setup is holding up fine so far. Caps haven't hinted at spinning loose.

Very creative solution.

Very nice work there, 9L. I have thought of doing that as well, as I also have a bunch of space between the wheels and fenders. Even went so far as thinking of a chainsaw there... but then I came to me senses, thinking of access and mud splash issues. But chains would be fine.

Doubt you will have any issues with the caps coming lose. I used a larger (6") pipe and caps as a conduit box on the roof of my service van for years, never had one come lose.

Again... nice work!

I have had a couple of ideas come upon me and they worked out pretty good. I was wandering through our local Peddlers Mall looking for something to use for chains (sort of an unmanned indoor flea market setting) and spotted a bicycle basket for $5. So far it works great! I'm going to modify the bottom attachment to something more stable that the current "tie-wire" and maybe even paint it JD Green.

Then I came up with the thought to cut a piece of 6" sewer pipe to fit under my tool box. Folgers coffee can lids fit on the ends just perfect. I'm contemplating an attachment method that is easily removable, just haven't settled on one yet. So far it's just wedged in place and it tends to "roll" a bit, But it sure is handy!

Both are handy for chains but the basket holds my gas and oil for my saw, gloves, Gatorade or whatever else fits and it's right there where I can reach it from the seat. This site, and the other members photos have been extremely helpful and inspiring.
