How do you store your diesel?

I have a 300 gallon overhead tank and use 300-600 gallon a year between my tractor and generator. I always put a jug of PowerService in each tank either before the delivery truck gets here or I have the driver pour it in before putting the fuel in.

Yes, diesel can go bad. It can gel up in the winter and get 'black goop' (algae?) in it. I don't use much diesel so I have 3 five gallon cans. Yes, it's a pain to use them, but for all the diesel I use, they're fine.

Before I fill the cans, I dump in PowerService and a biocide. I've had diesel sit for over a year and used it without a problem.

In 2x 1000 gal tanks hooked together with electric pump , I try to run out as much summer fuel as possible before putting in winter and vice-versa but some always ends up mixing , Never used an additive in the tanks , Just set em on a slight incline so the junk settles to the rear (tap) .

i recently aquired one of these for $40.

15 gal means i cut my trips to the gas station by a third.

also means i might be able to get one of my neighbor farmers with offroad 500gal setup to fill up my 15gal tank for a few bucks.

Im small time, 5 gal once a month or so.

Where do I get one of those, schmism? Looks like just what I need. I'm really tired of two 5-gal yellow cans. But I only use about 10-15 gallons a month.

I have about 240 gallons delivered every 8 months into a 275-gallon tank. I think that's about the same usage as yours. I had been lugging 5 gallon jerry cans and pouring them into a 55-gallon drum, but that got old pretty quick. The local jobber will deliver 200 gallons or more at a time. My tank is exposed to the weather and I have had water condense in it, so to every delivery I add an 8-oz. bottle of FPPF Fuel Power and a dash of FPPF Killem biocide. That keeps the fuel in good shape. Every 2 weeks I draw a small sample at the drain cock and check for contamination. No problem as a result of the FPPF brew.

I've got a 300 gallon tank on the farm that was 1/3 full (100 gl) when we bought the place almost 2 years ago. At the time I ensured that I put in diesel stablizer that the previous owner recommended. I also added a fuel filter - one that supposedly takes out moisture from the fuel.

I still have some left in the darn thing and I'm still using it - been using it for over a year now.

Probably not a great setup for how much I am using it but I haven't had a problem yet. I imagine that I will soon call the fuel delivery company to come and drop 100 gal or so in it. Doubt it would be worthwhile for them do do less.

How bad do you guys think it is to be using diesel over a couple years if the appropriate stablizer / additive is added to it? I sure as heck don't want to go to 5 gl cans with a great big fuel tank sitting here unless someone thinks my tractor will self destruct.

Mine is stored in 10,000 gallon underground tanks...at the gas station.

My diesel pickup visits there on a regular basis so I just get fuel in a can while I'm fueling the truck.

There are some advantages to this. First, it's always the correct fuel for the season and second, it's fresh although that is a relative term not as nearly as important as buying fresh gas or being 'in season'.
